Competitive Gymnastics Programs

“My daughter has trained with Icon for many years as a levels gymnast. During this time I have watched her grow, both as a gymnast and a person and am so proud of how far she's come.” - Michelle

Competitive Gymnastics with Icon Gymsports

At Icon Gymsports we have outstanding programs designed to offer exciting and challenging opportunities to those talented children who have the capacity to compete in gymnastics. Exclusively by selection only, our competitive programs are characterised by dedication and excellence. We nurture each child’s love of gymnastics and take pride in preparing them physically and mentally to excel and reach their potential.

Icon Gymsports offers Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) competitive programs, in which athletes progress through Levels. As a Gymnastics Australia affiliate, Icon Gymsports follows the Gymnastics Australia competitive framework and programs for both of these courses. The Australian Levels Program is structured on a national stream that aims to progress through the levels pathway at a pace suitable to each child’s needs and the programs and resources of their club. This holistic approach takes into consideration the potential to move to other gym sports, proving Artistic Gymnasts can go anywhere!

While gymnastics is an individual sport, our competitive athletes train with a squad, fostering great bonds and a team concept amongst athletes. Gymnasts across the levels will compete at Invitational and Gymnastics NSW competitions, and eventually at State, National and International level depending on their ability. Our team of highly qualified and dedicated coaches are committed to seeing each individual become the best athlete they can be with a healthy sense of balance, sportsmanship and self-confidence.

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)

“Women's Artistic Gymnastics is a creative blend of daring and control; powerful yet refined, elegant yet strong. Mastery on the four apparatus requires skills that flip, balance, swing and soar.” - Gymnastics Australia

The WAG program for all ages and levels focuses on the four competitive apparatus: vault, uneven bars, beam and floor. These talented gymnasts will learnt the basic and go on to master complex skills and challenge themselves at competitions.

WAG Foundations Program: Levels 1-2
Level 1 & 2 makes up the foundations program which forms the basis of the WAG Australian Levels Program. This program offers a great variety of skills to broaden basic knowledge and movement experiences for each gymnast. The number one objective of this program is participation and all are encouraged to have fun. Rather than learning routines these gymnasts learn and perform skill based circuits.

Levels 3-4 and 5-6 Program

The program follows the National Gymnastics Program and teaches complex skills and routines on the vault, bars, beam and floor. The girls have compulsory routines that they perform at invitational and Gymnastics NSW competitions, with the aim to qualify for State Championships.

Levels 7-10 Program
The program is specifically aimed at competent and experienced gymnasts. The level of skill required if much higher and participants may compete at State, National and International level depending on their ability. The Level 7-10 program is a progressive and developmental system providing athletes with the opportunity to move through the levels at their own pace.

Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG)

“Men's Artistic Gymnastics channels masculine energy to develop power, strength and control. Mastery of the six apparatus requires the skilful combination of flips, balance, stretch, spin and landings.” – Gymnastics Australia

Icon Gymsports proudly offers a competitive Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) program for school aged boys. This fun and challenging sport will see boys refine their skills on the MAG six competitive apparatus: floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar. Depending on their competitive level these squads will train 4-11 hours a week and compete in a number of competitions hosted by Gymnastics Australia up to a State level.
